Ehringshausen, October 16, 2009 --- „If there is a way to do something better, find it !“ – For decades this word of Thomas Alva Edison (1847-1931), one of the pioneers of electrical engineering, has been the guiding principle of the employees of the SGB-SMIT Group for the production of transformers.
With Hedrich winding systems (HWS), the SGB-SMIT Group has found a partner who shares and also realizes this philosophy. The most recent development of HWS, the pressing device HPD 5000 (HEDRICH Pressing Device), demonstrates what enhancement looks like: innovative, ergonomic and efficient are the terms characterizing the new pressing device that is used for winding power transformer coils.
In contrast to manual pressing of the wire windings by the operator using hammer and mallet, HPD 5000 offers a continuous, reproducible and efficient winding process of consistently high quality. Still more important than the productivity, which is 40% higher compared with manual winding, is the safety from breakdowns causing destruction of the transformer, which is not assured in the manual process (irregular conductor spacing, damaging of paper insulation). Because of the option to position the pressing head of the HPD 5000 by means of a remote control, the equipment is ergonomically superior to other comparable systems available on the market. In addition, the HPD 5000 applies a pressing force of more than 3000 Newton in order to permanently ensure the high quality of the produced windings.
„With the HPD 5000 we have achieved an important step in the industrialization of winding processes” says Karsten Adam, General Manager of HWS. „Not only our customers but also the customers of our customers benefit from the advantages resulting from the higher product quality and therefore from the increased lifespan of the produced coils.“
Adri Bomhoff, Production Manager of SMIT Transformers B.V. in Nijmegen, Netherlands, adds: „Besides the technical performance features, we were mainly convinced by the ergonomics and the wide spectrum of application of the equipment. In view of our broadly diversified offer of different transformer types, the HPD 5000 is the optimum answer to our production requirements.“
